用咖啡廳菜單教英文不可數名詞
你點拿鐵的時候說 'a coffee' 其實是錯的——或者說，不完全對
上週帶學生去 Starbucks 做戶外教學，輪到一個高二女生點餐。她很流利地說：
"I want a latte, a mocha, and two coffees."
店員愣了一下。不是聽不懂，是那句話在文法上踩了一個很多台灣學生都會踩的坑。
Coffee 是不可數名詞。
你不能直接說 "two coffees"。但你又確實聽過外國朋友說 "a coffee"——這到底是怎麼回事？
今天就用咖啡廳菜單，把不可數名詞一次講清楚。
先搞懂：什麼是不可數名詞？
英文名詞分成兩種：

不可數名詞不能加 -s，不能用 a/an 直接修飾。
那為什麼老外會說 "a coffee"？

打開 Starbucks 菜單，你會看到這些字：
- espresso — 濃縮咖啡
- latte — 拿鐵
- mocha — 摩卡
- frappuccino — 星冰樂
- matcha — 抹茶
- caramel — 焦糖
- vanilla — 香草
- milk — 牛奶
- sugar — 糖
- ice — 冰
- water — 水
- cream — 奶油
這些全部都是不可數名詞。你沒辦法說 "two milks" 或者 "three sugars"。
但菜單上你會看到：
Tall Latte Grande Mocha Venti Iced Americano
這不是文法錯誤，是省略說法。"a latte" 其實是 "a cup of latte" 的縮寫。就像中文說「來杯拿鐵」，你不會說「來一個拿鐵液體」。
那 "two coffees" 到底對不對？
口語上，很多人這樣說，算約定俗成。 但正式文法考試不會接受。
安全的說法是：
- ✅ two cups of coffee
- ✅ two lattes（這裡 latte 被當作一種「飲品類型」，可數化了）
- ❌
two coffees（口語 OK，文法上不標準）
這種「不可數名詞被當可數用」的現象叫做 countification，日常生活中很常見，但考試時別冒險。
怎樣讓不可數名詞變「可數」？
這是重點中的重點。方法很簡單：加量詞。

所以正確說法是：
- I'd like a cup of coffee, please.
- Can I have two glasses of orange juice?
- She ate three slices of pizza.
- He gave me a piece of advice.
最後那句超級重要。因為 advice 也是不可數。你不能說 "an advice" 或者 "two advices"。
台灣學生最常搞錯的不可數名詞
這些字你可能從國中就學錯了，一直錯到現在：
1. information ❌ an information
✅ I need some information about the flight. ✅ I have a piece of information for you.
很多人會說 "Can you give me an information?" 不行。要用 some 或 a piece of。
2. advice ❌ advices
✅ She gave me a lot of advice. ✅ Can you give me a piece of advice?
這個字連很多英文系學生都會加 s。別。
3. furniture ❌ furnitures
✅ We need to buy some new furniture. ✅ The room has three pieces of furniture.
「家具」不可數。一張桌子、一把椅子都是 a piece of furniture。
4. luggage ❌ luggages
✅ Please check your luggage. ✅ I have two pieces of luggage.
「行李」也是不可數。你不會說 "two luggages"，要說 "two suitcases" 或 "two pieces of luggage"。
5. homework ❌ homeworks
✅ I have a lot of homework. ✅ The teacher gave us three homework assignments.
「功課」不可數。要表達「很多功課」用 much 或 a lot of，不用 many。
6. money ❌ moneys（除非你在講法律）
✅ I don't have much money. ✅ She earns a lot of money.
7. traffic ❌ traffics
✅ There's a lot of traffic today. ✅ The traffic is heavy.（不可數所以用 is）
8. news ❌ a news
✅ I have some good news. ✅ That's a piece of good news.
News 結尾有 s 但它不可數。它本來是 new + s，不是 news 的複數。
Much vs. Many、A little vs. A few
這兩組是不可數名詞的標配搭配，也是考試常客。
Much vs. Many

注意：有沒有 a，意思差很多。
I have a little money. → 我還有一點錢。（夠花）
I have little money. → 我幾乎沒錢了。（不夠）
There are a few cookies left. → 還剩幾片餅乾。（可以吃）
There are few cookies left. → 幾乎沒餅乾了。（不夠分）
這差別在考試裡超愛考。
