"Mbappé is faster than everyone."

這句話你一定聽過。世界盃轉播的時候，英文主播幾乎每場比賽都會講。它是一句比較級——faster than——兩個人在比，一個比另一個快。

比較級和最高級是英文文法裡面最基本的東西之一，但很多台灣學生搞不清楚規則，更不知道什麼時候用 -er、什麼時候用 more、什麼時候要加 the。

這篇文章用足球世界盃當素材，把比較級和最高級一次講清楚。你會看到真正的球評怎麼用這些文法，然後學會自己用。

就算你不看足球也沒關係。這些規則在日常生活、考試、寫作裡都用得到。世界盃只是一個有趣的切入點。

先搞清楚：比較級和最高級在比什麼

比較級（comparative）：兩個東西在比。

Mbappé is faster than Ronaldo. （Mbappé 比 Ronaldo 快。）

兩個球員，一個比另一個快。用 faster than。

最高級（superlative）：三個以上的東西在比，其中一個最突出。

Mbappé is the fastest player in the tournament. （Mbappé 是這屆比賽最快的球員。）

很多球員裡面，他最快。用 the fastest。

規則就是這樣：

但事情沒有這麼簡單。英文的比較級有三種變化方式，要看形容詞的音節數和拼法來決定。

規則一：短形容詞加 -er / -est

一個音節的形容詞（和部分兩個音節的），直接在字尾加 -er（比較級）和 -est（最高級）。

球評怎麼用：

"Salah is quicker than most defenders." （Salah 比大部分後衛都快。）

"Haaland is the strongest striker in the Premier League." （Haaland 是英超最強的前鋒。）

"Messi is older than Mbappé, but he's still brilliant." （Messi 比 Mbappé 年長，但他依然很強。）

注意拼法規則：

• 字尾是子音 + y → y 變 i 再加 er/est

  • easy → easier → the easiest
  • heavy → heavier → the heaviest

• 字尾是短母音 + 單子音 → 子音重複再加 er/est

  • big → bigger → the biggest
  • hot → hotter → the hottest
  • thin → thinner → the thinnest

球評例子：

"The second half was bigger than the first in terms of intensity." （下半場的強度比上半場更大。）

"This is the biggest match of the year." （這是今年最大的比賽。）

規則二：長形容詞用 more / most

兩個音節以上的形容詞（尤其是字尾是 -ful, -ous, -ive, -able, -ing 的），前面加 more（比較級）和 the most（最高級）。

球評怎麼用：

"Neymar's dribbling is more dangerous than almost anyone's." （Neymar 的盤帶幾乎比任何人都危險。）

"This has been the most exciting World Cup in decades." （這是幾十年來最精彩的世足賽。）

"The second goal was even more impressive than the first." （第二個進球比第一個更驚人。）

一個常見的疑問：某些兩個音節的形容詞，可以用 -er 也可以用 more，哪個才對？

答案是：兩個都對。像 common, clever, gentle, handsome, narrow, quiet, simple 這些字，-er 和 more 都有人用。但在正式考試裡面，如果你不確定，用 more 比較安全。

規則三：不規則變化——背就對了

有三個形容詞是不規則的，沒有道理可講，只能背。

這三個在足球評論裡出現的頻率非常高：

"Messi is a better dribbler than Ronaldo." （Messi 的盤帶比 Ronaldo 好。）

"This is the best performance I've ever seen." （這是我看過最好的表現。）

"The referee made a worse decision in the second half." （裁判在下半場做了一個更糟糕的判決。）

"That was the worst penalty kick I've ever seen." （那是我看過最爛的十二碼。）

"Mbappé ran further than anyone else on the pitch." （Mbappé 在球場上跑的距離比任何人都遠。）

"That's the furthest a team from Africa has ever gone in the World Cup." （那是非洲球隊在世足賽走過最遠的一次。）

另外還有兩個常見的不規則：

"He has less experience than his teammates." （他的經驗比隊友少。）

"Brazil has won the most World Cups." （巴西贏過最多次世足賽。）

比較級的句型結構

知道了變化規則之後，來看句型。比較級有幾種固定的用法。

A is 比較級 than B

最基本的比較句型。A 比 B 怎麼樣。

"Mbappé is faster than Messi." "The 2022 final was more exciting than the 2018 final." "France played better than Germany in the semi-final."

注意：than 後面如果是代名詞，受格（him, her, them）比主格（he, she, they）常見。

• Mbappé is faster than him. ✅（口語常用）
• Mbappé is faster than he is. ✅（正式用法）
• Mbappé is faster than he. ✅（非常正式，少用）

A is the 最高級 in / of

最高級要加 the，後面接 in（地方、群體）或 of（特定範圍）。

"He's the fastest player in the tournament." "This is the best goal of the World Cup." "She's the most talented player on the team."

常見錯誤：忘記加 the。

• ❌ He is fastest player.
• ✅ He is the fastest player.

as + 原級 + as（跟...一樣）

這個句型用來表示「一樣」。不用比較級，用原級。

"He's as fast as Mbappé." （他跟 Mbappé 一樣快。）

"This match is as exciting as the final." （這場比賽跟決賽一樣精彩。）

否定形式：not as...as = 不如

"Ronaldo is not as fast as he used to be." （Ronaldo 不如以前快了。）

"The group stage matches are not as intense as the knockout rounds." （小組賽不如淘汰賽緊張。）

球評很愛用 not as...as 來含蓄地批評：

"The atmosphere was not as electric as we expected." （氣氛不如我們預期的熱烈。）

這句話比 "The atmosphere was boring" 禮貌多了。

進階用法：雙重比較級與其他結構

雙重比較級：more and more / -er and -er

表示「越來越...」。

"Football is becoming more and more popular in Asia." （足球在亞洲越來越受歡迎。）

"The games are getting better and better." （比賽越來越精彩。）

"Players are faster and stronger than ever before." （球員比以往更快更強。）

結構：more and more + 長形容詞，或 adj-er and adj-er + 短形容詞。

• more and more exciting ✅
• more and more dangerous ✅
• faster and faster ✅
• bigger and bigger ✅
• more faster and faster ❌（不要混用）

the 比較級, the 比較級（越...就越...）

"The harder you train, the better you play." （你練得越努力，你踢得越好。）

"The more you watch football, the more you understand the tactics." （你看越多足球，你越懂戰術。）

這個句型非常實用，不只是用來講足球：

• The more you practice, the more confident you become.
• The earlier you start, the easier it is.

比較級 + and + 比較級（越來越...的另一種說法）

跟 more and more 意思一樣，但用法稍有不同。

"The match is getting closer and closer." （比賽越來越接近了。）

"He's becoming stronger and stronger." （他越來越強了。）

much / far / even / a lot + 比較級（...得多）

用來加強比較級的語氣。

"Mbappé is much faster than the average player." （Mbappé 比一般球員快得多。）

"This final is far more exciting than anyone predicted." （這場決賽比任何人預測的都精彩得多。）

"She played even better in the second half." （她在下半場踢得甚至更好。）

常見的加強詞：much, far, even, a lot, a little, slightly, somewhat, way。

"He's a little faster than his teammate." （他比隊友快一點點。）

"She's way better than everyone else on the team." （她比隊上其他人都好太多了。）（口語）

世界盃球評實戰：真實語境學比較級

來看一些真實球評會講的句子，分析裡面的比較級和最高級用法。

句子一：

"Argentina were the better team on the night." （阿根廷是那晚表現比較好的隊伍。）

分析：兩隊在比，用比較級 better。注意用 the better，不是 the best。只有兩隊的時候，用 the + 比較級，不用最高級。

這是一個很多人忽略的規則：兩者之間用比較級，三者以上用最高級。

• Which is better, tea or coffee? ✅（兩者）
• Which is the best drink here? ✅（三者以上）

句子二：

"That was one of the most dramatic finishes in World Cup history." （那是世足賽史上最戲劇性的結尾之一。）

分析：most dramatic 是最高級。「one of the + 最高級 + 複數名詞」是很常見的句型。注意名詞要用複數：one of the most dramatic finishes，不是 finish。

句子三：

"He couldn't have hit that any further." （他不可能踢得更遠了。）

分析：further 是 far 的比較級。any further 用在否定句裡面，表示「不能再...了」。

句子四：

"The referee should have been stricter." （裁判應該更嚴格一點。）

分析：stricter 是 strict 的比較級。「should have been + 比較級」表示「應該要更...但沒有」。

句子五：

"No one expected them to go this far in the tournament." （沒人預期他們能在比賽中走這麼遠。）

分析：this far 表示「這麼遠」。far 的比較級可以是 further 或 farther，但在比喻意義上（不是實際距離）通常用 further。

考試連結：比較級在學測中的出現方式

比較級和最高級是學測英文的常客。它們出現在閱讀測驗、克漏字、和文法選擇題裡面。

閱讀測驗

閱讀測驗裡面，比較級通常出現在作者表達觀點的地方：

"Urban areas tend to have higher crime rates than rural areas." （都市地區的犯罪率往往比鄉村地區高。）

"Of all the proposed solutions, this one is the most practical." （在所有提議的解決方案中，這個最實用。）

你要能辨認出這些是比較句型，才能正確理解句意。

克漏字

克漏字可能會挖掉比較級的關鍵字：

"This year's exam was _____ (difficult) than last year's."

答案是 more difficult。你要能判斷 than 出現了，所以前面一定是比較級。

"It was the _____ (bad) movie I've ever seen."

答案是 worst。the + 最高級，bad 的最高級是 worst。

文法選擇

文法題可能會考你規則和不規則變化：

"She sings _____ (beautifully) than her sister."

答案是 more beautifully。兩個音節的副詞用 more。

"His health is getting _____ and _____ (bad)."

答案是 worse and worse。bad 是不規則，比較級是 worse。

寫作

在翻譯或作文裡面，適當使用比較級可以讓你的文章更有層次。

一般寫法：

"Reading is important. Exercise is also important."

用比較級升級：

"While both reading and exercise are important, reading may be more beneficial for long-term cognitive development."

看出差異了嗎？比較級讓你的論點更細膩，不是只有「A 好，B 也好」，而是「A 和 B 都好，但 A 更好」。

實戰練習：用球員數據做比較

現在來練習。以下是幾位足球員的基本數據（虛構但合理），你要用這些數據寫出比較級和最高級的句子。

容易犯的比較級錯誤

最後列幾個常見的地雷。

地雷一：雙重比較。

• ❌ He is more faster than me.
• ✅ He is faster than me.

more 和 -er 不能同時用。選一個就好。

地雷二：忘記 than。

• ❌ He is faster me.
• ✅ He is faster than me.

比較級後面要接 than。不加 than，句子不完整。

地雷三：最高級忘記 the。

• ❌ She is best player.
• ✅ She is the best player.

最高級前面通常要加 the。唯一的例外是當最高級當副詞用的時候：She sings best in the class.（best 修飾 sings，不用 the。）

地雷四：不規則變化記錯。

• ❌ gooder, goodest, bader, baddest（不存在）
• ✅ better, best, worse, worst

good 和 bad 的比較級和最高級是不規則的，不能加 -er / -est。

地雷五：比較的對象不對。

• ❌ His speed is faster than Ronaldo.（速度跟人比？）
• ✅ His speed is faster than Ronaldo's.（速度跟速度比）
• ✅ He is faster than Ronaldo.（人跟人比）

比較的東西要對等。速度跟速度比，人跟人比。如果省略第二個名詞，要加 's 表示所有格。

地雷六：用 more + 短形容詞。

• ❌ more fast, more big, more tall
• ✅ faster, bigger, taller

短形容詞加 -er，不要用 more。只有長形容詞才用 more。

地雷七：混淆 further 和 farther。

在現代英文裡面，這兩個字幾乎可以互換。但嚴格來說：

• farther = 實際距離（physical distance）
• further = 比喻意義（抽象的「更進一步」）

The ball went farther than expected.（球飛得比預期遠——實際距離） We need to discuss this further.（我們需要進一步討論——抽象）

考試的時候，如果題目考的是距離，選 farther；如果考的是程度或抽象概念，選 further。但在日常英文裡面，大多數人用 further 來涵蓋兩種意思。

結語：比較是一種思考方式

學比較級不只是學文法規則。它是在訓練你用英文去「比較」事物。

中文裡面，你說「他比較快」，不需要什麼特別的句型。英文不行。英文要你明確地說出：誰比誰快？快多少？在什麼範圍裡最快？
